May 15th 2007 - GREY LISTING, A REVOLUTIONARY ANTI SPAM FILTER FOR THE PROTECTOR

SecPoint introduces a Grey Listing system which detects and blocks 75 to 85 per cent of all spam before it enters the network hereby allowing the users to avoid spending costly time removing it from their mail boxes.

Grey Listing is a method that blocks substantial portions of spam with no use of complicated analyses. Grey Listing works because spammers often send out mail using compromised zombie computers. These zombie computers are not real email servers and consequently don't act like real email servers. When a new email arrives at the Protector, it is grey listed until the sending email server confirms it has sent the email. A zombie server will never send confirmation and so the email will be discarded. Emails which are confirmed are put on to a white list enabling all future emails from this address to be delivered right away without being grey listed.

In short: Grey Listing will benefit your everyday routines by eliminating the costly extra time spent on dealing with spam.

Grey Listing is being included as a standard Anti-Spam feature on all Protector units. The Anti Spam module also includes:

  • A points system which counts the points it gives to all the words in an email.
  • Official black lists of spammers addresses.
  • Multiple updates from SpamAssassin.
  • Individual user login to manage Spam Quarantine.
  • Manual fine tuning based on the customer's network set-up.
